A Statement from Masterdor Limited
Masterdor Limited has taken the decision to suspend the production of all GRP and timber fire doors with immediate effect.
Masterdor Limited has been a subsidiary of the Synseal Group since 2014. In recent months, the Synseal Group’s board of directors has undertaken an internal audit of all the relevant fire door test certificates held by Masterdor Limited.
While the audit confirmed that the appropriate fire test certificates and assessments are in place, the board instructed that a series of fire tests be undertaken to satisfy itself of the ongoing integrity of the certification held.
Regrettably, during these tests, some of the GRP and timber fire door styles – previously tested successfully through an external test house, resulting in the provision of appropriate fire test certificates and assessments – did not meet the 30-minute standard expected.
Consequently, the decision was made to immediately suspend any further production of Masterdor Limited GRP and timber fire doors until further tests could be conducted, formal test reports were available to review, and the results of further internal investigations could be fully completed.
All GRP and timber fire doors have also been removed from sale.
As a manufacturer and installer of fire doors, Masterdor Limited takes its responsibilities extremely seriously. The company is currently undertaking one of the most extensive fire door testing programmes seen in the industry to establish the precise nature of the issue and to devise an appropriate fix.
Furthermore, every customer that has purchased a fire door from Masterdor Limited since 2014 has been updated on the investigation and offered guidance and support.
As part of this process, Masterdor Limited is in voluntary consultation with both the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Trading Standards.
Both are fully aware of the issues that have been identified and of the steps that are being taken to thoroughly investigate this issue.
The Synseal Group board welcomes the news that the Ministry has recently started testing the products of other producers, and notes that some other manufacturers have also withdrawn similar doors from sale.
Masterdor Limited would like to reassure customers that it is doing all it can to resolve this matter and, at this time, the Ministry’s Expert Panel has reiterated that any risk to public safety is low.
